Good Friday
“It is finished.” (John 18:1-19:42)
Good Friday. A day that celebrates the suffering and death of the Christ, Lord Jesus. It is a GOOD day. Jesus suffers and dies on the Cross and finishes the job His Father sent Him to do. He offers Himself to all who are heirs of His passion and death. Not even the terrible death on the Cross could make him abandon His work of salvation. There is no power on earth that could keep Jesus from sacrificing himself for us.
Our response: faith, hope, and love. First, our response is faith. Our faith is tested just like the Apostles. They abandoned Jesus at the hour of his suffering and death. Do we, as Peter, deny even knowing Jesus? Do we abandon Him when our faith is tested? Sometimes we forget what Jesus teaches us. Sometimes we turn our backs on Him and Father God.
But Jesus never abandons us. We live in hope for a better tomorrow. Hope can keep us from wandering, believing that Jesus, the Son of God the Father abandoned us. “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.” In hope, we thank Him for all His blessings. We pray that Jesus remembers us no matter how far we stray from His Word.
Love covers all. “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to be its judge but to be its savior.” Do we honor, care for, and love one another as God cares for, honors, and loves us? God is Love!
