He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:....
(LK 2:22-40)
One day, Brother Really was reading the Bible to find out why people go to Church. Brother Really is always skeptical about people going to Church. While sitting on his porch, he watched watching people go to Church. These folks, dressed in beautiful clothing, never said a kind word to him, not even a "good morning." He thought to himself, "They are in a hurry." Then again, when leaving the Church, he saw folks fighting and cussing. Was that God's Spirit? Shaking his head, Brother Really thought to himself, "Why should I go to Church, I don't see a change in their walk. Really!"
Fortunately, he saw a gospel verse that talked about Simeon the prophet, a man filled with the Holy Spirit. Brother Really reflected on the thought that the parents of the child, Jesus, saw that going to the temple was important. This family custom was a spiritual practice. They knew that blessings come from God when one visits the temple, as their tradition taught. Here, Brother Really realized that people should go to Church to worship and praise God. With this idea, he decided to attend Church, not because of what people say, or don't say. Brother Really learned that he must attend Church to strengthen his relationship with God. After all, Brother Really finally understood that getting blessings from God is more important than judging what people say or don't say. God is always ready to bless us when we come to him. He Really is!
